For those of us lucky enough to make Placerville our home, we know just how fortunate we are. We live in an area with rich history, beautiful scenery, a wonderful climate, and little traffic.
We're proud of our town and that motivates us to do whatever we can to make it better. The Gold Rush Chorus partipates in a number of community events throughout the year, including the annual Christmas tree lighting
Every September, young men from all over California attend the Youth Harmony Camp in Pollock Pines. Some of the best quartets and music educators in the world provide an intensive weekend of singing instruction, climaxing with the kids putting on a Sunday show!
We've sent a number of our local music teachers to Harmony University to polish their music and director's skills
In every one of our shows at least one school is invited to perform. The proceeds from the show raffle go directly to the school.
It wasn't that long ago that one of our schools was going to lose their entire music program. The Gold Rush Chorus stepped up with other groups to provide funding for a music instructor for that year
One of the realities of our time is the reduction in school budgets. And one of the things that's always on the chopping block are school music programs.
This bothers us... A LOT
Every year we raise money through our annual shows, raffles, and sing outs, with the vast majority of that money going directly to youth harmony programs.
In fact, over the last decade, we've donated over $50,000 to youth programs. $5,000 a year for a decade. We're a group of 25 men who care deeply about music education, and back it up with our actions. And we're working on being able to do more!
